A snapshot of what local diners frequently mention about this location.
"This was recommended by a friend due to the James Beard award, and that’s what drew us in. We came in without reservations, so a decently long wait time was not surprising. There were four of us so we were able to order and share a variety of dishes. Everyone loved the dishes, a favorite was the scallops. The cocktails with clarified milk were very tasty and unique. I honestly have not had Thai food like this before, and I’ve never been to Thailand, but I’ve eaten Thai food at many places in several US cities. I would eat here again, I will eat here again, one of my favorite meals with great food and people. To note, the co-owner/husband of the head chef sat us. Very humble, very nice, we had no clue who he was when he took our name down for the reservation, not until he sat us and explained the menu and how his wife created it. We felt very well taken care of, no rush or anything."
"Category: Elevated Thai. The name suggests Chinese, but the food is creatively Thai. The server described the dishes as mostly family recipes, so I know the folks ate very well in those homes. The warm brick and steel dining rooms, which are laid out kind of like the rooms of a house, flow into the concrete and steel al fresco ramada dining. As the menu is family food, the restaurant’s homey layout fits it. Our friends were already seated when we arrived, so we bypassed the long queue at the door. We passed the front bar, through the hopping main dining rooms, into an outdoor passageway, and into an only slightly less hopping rear dining room with its own wood-topped bar. My only (minor) complaint was the QR code for ordering wine. If you read my reviews you know I hate them, won’t use them, and leave restaurants if the menu is only available by QR code, which are sooo 2020. Thankfully, there was a real menu because I would not have wanted to miss this food. Perhaps the best testament to the deliciousness of the dishes — other than the overflowing dining rooms, bars, and patio, and the guests waiting for tables to turn — is that my cooking school teacher brought us here on what was his second or third visit. He was blown away by the food, as were we. All of the dishes were delicious and the service was excellent. YouTube’s Chef’s Apprentice"
"Another excellent food spot in downtown Phoenix! Chiang-Mai style Thai-inspired dishes. Came here for the recently James Beard-awarded chef Yotaka Martin. Curry Dungeness crab was delish & well-balanced. Would 100% order again. Wings were delish. The crispiness reminded me of corn flakes. Wish the sauce wasn’t the generic sweet & sour sauce - would be better with a sweet, chili fish sauce like prik nam pla. Had the Thai tea clarified cocktail. If you’re into sweet cocktails, this is for you. I appreciated it, but I’d prob try something else next time. Hmmm it’s looking like I need to come back for the papaya salad."
"Very authentic Thai restaurant with great flavors and options some of the portions are on the smaller side but the quality of ingredients are excellent. The green mango salad was very fresh and refreshing but personally was not my personal preference so I would not get it again myself. The pork belly curry (Ba Buey Khlak Ti) was amazing and packed with flavor and had a kick of spice. The portion size was a little disappointing considering the price but I can understand as well. The wings were nothing special. They unfortunately lacked flavor on their own and relied on the dipping sauce for flavor so I would personally not order them again. They were fried very well I would love to see more flavor in the chicken in the future. The seasonal creme brulees were not joking one of the better creme brulees I have had in Phoenix. The different flavors (one more lemon focused and the other hibiscus) were distinct and great. The interior of the restaurant was very well done and clean no complaints there at all. Do not be shocked if you spend 50+ per person. Will try again."
"This place has been on my bucket list for awhile, FINALLY! Our party of 4 had an 6:45 Thursday evening reservation. Upon arrival we were greeted and seated. The vibe of the restaurant is really laid back with bar and patio seating. The restaurant was fairly full. Our server Joe introduced herself, very nice, very informative and knowledgeable about the dishes and cocktails. She had given us a rundown on how to order eating family style and how many dishes to order between the 4 of us which was suggested 7 and that we order all dishes at once. We ordered cocktails while looking over the menu. BTW the Kho Ping Khan (Gin and Vodka) Martini like drink was amazing. Dishes we ordered was the Mango Salad, Stir Fried Crab, Egg Noodles with Char Siu, Crispy Rice with Cured Pork Sausage, Tom Kha Gai Soup, Wide Rice Noodles with Squid, and the Mussels. All the dishes tasted amazing, the weakest one was the Tom Kha Gai. My only comment would be is, we ordered 7 dishes as recommended by Joe. Basically all 7 dishes came out at once, leaving no room on our tiny table for 4. Plus it made me feel rushed to eat faster, as you wanted to eat the hot dishes while they were still hot. I would of been happier of they brought out 4 dishes, let us finish at least 3 before sending out the next 3. Atmosphere: relaxed, the decor very nice. Service: excellent. Food: excellent."
"Best Thai food I’ve ever had. Me and one other person came to celebrate my birthday, and we were not disappointed. Reservations are tight here, so make one if possible but we took the risk. We came early (4:50pm on a Sunday) to try our luck and got a table! (Even if we didn’t, that’s ok, it clearly states reservations are recommended but maybe it was bday luck!) we got to sit at the bar, where we were greeted promptly and explained the beautiful story of the owners backgrounds and the meaning behind the menu. So amazing to see such difference simply based on region! We tried the amazing mango salad that was bright, spicy, and full of flavor. We also had the restaurant special which was a white fish dish, and the tom kha. This fed two people perfectly! We also got to try the Thai banana split for dessert and it was one of a kind! We had such a lovely experience, and I wish I could remember who served us, she was fantastic. I recommend this place for special occasions, it made me feel a little fancy for the day! Come early, as parking isn’t the best but it’s downtown! What do you expect. Make it an enjoyable walk :) Can’t wait to be back."
"My family dined on the patio and enjoyed the Arai Kodai experience. The waitress asked us about our food allergies and food preferences at the beginning. We thoroughly enjoyed every single dish that was served. I appreciate the description and background story that the servers shared for each dish. Our favorites were the cured fish appetizer, green mango salad, and Tom Kha Gai. I recommend trying the Arai Kodai experience! Every dish was a pleasant surprise. We got to try dishes that we would probably usually not try. There were definitely enough food served. We all left very full and satisfied. We tried 5 cocktails / mocktails. The Sahai su-ra was a crowd favorite. Very unique drink and taste but the odd combination worked great together. Would absolutely come back and try more dishes!"
"We visited Lom Wong recently and were seated right away thanks to our reservation. The patio atmosphere was lovely—even on a semi-rainy Phoenix day, it felt cozy and inviting. The food was excellent. We started with the green mango (Yam Mamuang Boran) and bok salad (Pad Kwang Toon). Both were fresh and flavorful, though the green mango had a unique taste and texture that stood out. For the main courses, the crispy pork belly curry (Ba Buey Khak Ti) was outstanding. The portion was generous, the flavors bright with a coconut base, and the pork perfectly crispy. The medium spice level balanced beautifully with the mango. We also tried the squid pasta, which was exceptional—the squid was cooked perfectly, and I enjoyed it thoroughly despite usually not being a fan of squid. My wife had an orange wine that paired wonderfully with the dishes, while my Riesling heightened the spiciness in an interesting way. Dessert was a banana split with coconut sorbet, a refreshing and flavorful way to finish the meal. Overall, we had a fantastic experience at Lom Wong. The food, atmosphere, and service all came together to make it memorable. We look forward to returning to explore more of their menu."
